Plain-language terms for using TipOut. Short version: your data is yours, and always double-check what matters.

Terms of Use

These terms cover your use of the TipOut app and the website at tipout.us (together, “TipOut”). By creating an account or using TipOut, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use TipOut.

What TipOut is

TipOut helps servers and bartenders keep a personal record of hours and tips and see estimates such as take-home pay, average hourly earnings and bar tip splits. TipOut is a record-keeping tool. It is not tax, legal, accounting or financial advice, and it doesn’t replace your employer’s payroll records. Check anything important, such as the amounts you report for taxes, against your official records.

Your account

  • You need an account to use TipOut. Keep your sign-in details private; you’re responsible for activity on your account.
  • You must be old enough to form a binding agreement where you live (at least 18 in most places, or the age of majority).
  • You can delete your account at any time in Settings → Delete account. This permanently deletes your data.

Your data

What you log belongs to you. We use it only to run TipOut for you, as described in our Privacy Policy.

Receipt scanning

Scan receipt uses a third-party AI service (Anthropic) to read the numbers on photos you take, and only after you agree in the app. AI can misread numbers, so always review what it fills in before saving. Only scan checkouts that you’re allowed to photograph, and don’t use scanning to collect other people’s information. Scanning has a daily limit and may change or pause as we improve it.

TipOut Pro and scan packs

  • TipOut Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, monthly or yearly, bought through Apple. Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm. It renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period, and your account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before it ends. Manage or cancel it anytime in your iPhone’s Settings → your name → Subscriptions.
  • A free trial, when offered, turns into a paid subscription at its end unless you cancel before then. Any unused part of a trial ends when you buy a subscription.
  • Scan packs are one-time purchases of receipt scans. They don’t expire, can’t be transferred, and are used after your monthly scans.
  • Free accounts get 10 receipt scans a month; Pro includes up to 200 a month. Limits reset on the 1st of each month (UTC).
  • Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies.

Acceptable use

Don’t misuse TipOut: no attempts to access other people’s accounts or data, disrupt the service, get around limits, reverse-engineer it, or use it for anything unlawful.

Changes and availability

We’re a small team and keep improving TipOut, so features may change, and the service may occasionally be unavailable. We may update these terms; if a change is significant we’ll let you know in the app or by email. Continuing to use TipOut after a change means you accept it.

Ending your use

You can stop using TipOut and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms.

Disclaimers

TipOut is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the extent the law allows, we make no warranties that it will be error-free or uninterrupted, or that its calculations or scanned numbers are accurate for your situation.

Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, TipOut and its makers aren’t liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, or for lost earnings, arising from your use of TipOut. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can’t be limited.

Apple

If you downloaded TipOut from the App Store, Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. Apple is not responsible for TipOut or its support.
